Overview
Blacksmithing Classes are presented by the Vista Forge at four different levels from first timer to the experienced smith. First-timers are invited to participate in Introduction to Blacksmithing. This course is planned for 3 sessions where the student will learn the fundamentals including working with a coal forge, creating useful and decorative items as well as how to work safely. Completion of Introduction to Blacksmithing is necessary for participation in the following courses:
- Level I, Blacksmithing is a California Blacksmith Association (CBA) training program which teaches the majority of the skills used by traditional blacksmiths and requires about a year to complete.
- Level II, The Blacksmith's Craft, adds additional skills and applies those skills toward decorative and functional items and requires about two years to complete.
- Level III, Forging to Dimension is an independent study where the experienced smith completes a complex grill to a standard drawing while producing the tools necessary to complete the project.
CBA certifications can be earned at three levels through these courses.
